I am a happy girl when a Jonathan Ivy
e-session shows up in my inbox! I love the simplicity and rawness of Brent + Jennilee's gorgeous black and white engagement photo shoot. Just as much as I love the pictures, I love the couple's love story.
How did you and Brent meet?
Brent and I both knew the first week we met that we would marry each other. I even remember calling my best friend and telling her, "I know this sounds crazy but this is the guy God made just for me.... but DON'T tell ANYONE I said that because I'll sound crazy!" Of course, neither myself or Brent told each other we knew that until a long time later! We later admitted it to one another. We only dated for a short 10 months when he proposed! Some say we're crazy... I won't deny it! But that little saying "when you know, you know"... Well, ya know.... We're believers.
How did he pop the big question?
I was 100% shocked and not suspecting when he proposed. It was a lazy day at his family's ranch near Austin, and after A LOT of convincing, he talked me down to the pond where I fished a giant fake ring out of the pond and when I turned around he was on one knee. It was the sweetest request I've ever heard. His brothers and their wives were all there and helped plan as well as snapped some pics and a video of the action! Fun fact: I was wearing my Garner state park t-shirt the day he proposed. (His last name is Garner!)
What makes your relationship special?
We both work in the oilfield in West Texas so for anyone who knows about this lifestyle, long hours and sometimes days away from home make our short times together so cherished. We also know it's just the beginning of our awesome life together. We are both very driven and are the perfect little support system for each other in achieving our goals!
Can you share details about your upcoming wedding?
We are so excited for the big day. The wedding will be at my parents' beautiful home in Northwest Houston. I've got an amazing wedding planner from Socially Chic Events Styling, and let me just tell you, she's made my life in this crazy planning process just a dream... I highly recommend a wedding planner to any bride! This backyard tent wedding is going to be absolutely chic, perfect, intimate and oh so gorgeous! ... counting down the days!
The engagement session of Laura + Joshua by Christine Gosch
incorporates all the sweet things in life - sunshine, yummy treats and pretty lace. Love was definitely in the air during this photo shoot, with even a hint of red. (Don't those cherries look delish?)
What a treat we have for you on the blog today! Marilyn Duvall Photography
sent us this gorgeous local photo shoot and her vision behind it. She wanted to go back in time and shoot "something very timeless and romantic" (think old telephone booth). Her subject: Jason + Katie Lamb. (You probably recognize this name!) The sparkly dress, pin curled hair, and red lipstick - what a glamorous and classy session! And an easy subject to shoot.
We adore this engagement session by CivicPhotos
- it's modern, fresh and offbeat. The couple posed in front of a cool restaurant overlooking Clear Lake. Then later, captured some lovely shots at the local marina. The couple had fun with some props - like wooden signs and hula hoops. We love CivicPhotos' ability to find the most unique spots around the Houston area for photo sessions!

Today's Friday Favorites
don't really have a theme or title to tie them all together; they are just simply a few of our favorite things from this week. We came across an engagement photo shoot we absolutely adore - sent by CivicPhotos - that was inspired by the 1950's vintage style. We'll also introduce you to a non-profit wedding ministry that we got to know this week that deserves recognition for what its doing for the community. And, lastly, we'll share some exciting events on our calendar
that you don't want to miss!
The offbeat engagement session of Ciara + Weston, taken by CivicPhotos, has many great elements to it which makes it such a classic shoot - fashion, timeless settings and of course, that vintage Cadillac from the 1950's. Perhaps one of our favorites to date from this talented photographer!
Something Borrowed Wedding Dresses
, in Montgomery, is a new organization founded in June 2012. The dress shop loans wedding dresses to brides on a budget, as a free service. The mission of this ministry is "to be a blessing to women looking for the perfect dress." Here is how Dee Dee Vaughn, owner, describes the dress ministry: "We are a Non- Profit Ministry that accepts gently worn wedding gowns, veils, shoes, slips and accessories. Some are brand new and some are gently used. My inventory is always growing and I invite you to browse my online catalog. Call or email for an appointment to try on some beautiful dresses. Every bride deserves to feel gorgeous on her wedding day but sometimes due to financial restraints a bride may not be able to afford the dress of her dreams. My goal is to help find that dress and just let her borrow it!"
We have the pleasure of working with this ministry on a future style shoot. We will be sure to share the images of the dresses from the session. If you are interested in donating a gently worn, or new, wedding gown or accessories, contact Dee Dee - by e-mail
or phone: (903) 277-4580.

Alison + Ryan
wanted their engagement session to be outdoors and country. The photo shoot was a split session, shot by Brent Shumaker Photography
, starting off at Fernland Historical Park
in Montgomery for a country feel with wide open space, and followed up by a more city, but still rustic, vibe photographed in Downtown Conroe.
The couple's engagement story is one for the books. Brent explains:
"Alison and Ryan were actually high school sweethearts who met while working at the same restaurant in high school. When graduation came, they split up - with Ryan moving to Louisiana for college. Ten years later, they ended up finding each other again to realize they still had those same old flames as back then (a decade ago.) Now, they are set to get married in October at St. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in The Woodlands, with a reception to follow at Town Hall Texas."
We wish them all the best! Thanks for sharing, Brent.
We love when photographers send us styled engagement shoots! Colton + Rachel
were totally game when their photographer, Amie Reinholz
, suggested a photo shoot loosely inspired by the movie The Notebook and that era. The session was shot in Montgomery at Forever Faithful Ministries
horse ranch. Rachel's makeup + hair was styled by Anna DeLong at Salons at the Lake
. The looks, the props, the location - it is all so perfect!
If you're obsessed with The Notebook like we are, you will remember the love story of Allie and Noah. Similar to how those two fell in love, Colton + Rachel's story is its own romantic comedy. The couple met through mutual friends and Colton was immediately smitten with Rachel. According to Rachel, he started "bothering" her all the time until finally he gave her a nickname she thought was cute and Rachel decided to give Colton a chance. They have been together ever since and are "obsessed with each other". The couple are getting married this July at Ashelynn Manor
. We will be sure to follow this love story!
The Woodlands has so many great locations for an engagement session and I am loving Jessica and Brandon's captured by Civic Photos
with The Woodlands Mall
and Shirley Acres
as their backdrops. Congratulations Jessica and Brandon Stewart! (and Go Texans!)
This edgy engagement is from Christine Gosch Photography. This adventuresome couple, Kayla and Hunter, toured Haak winery and an old caboose to get the perfect shots. My favorite are the photos from the wine cellar! What is yours?
